Travis de Valle, Auroras in Suburbia (LANDSCAPE 2024)

On Saturday May 11, 2024, Melbourne was treated to a rare astronomical event; the Aurora Australis, or Southern Lights, were visible to the naked eye from the backyards of millions of homes. Usually reserved for the likes of Antarctica or the most southerly points of Tasmania and New Zealand, these shots were instead taken from Mentone beach, in the heart of the south-east Melbourne suburbs. It was such a rare privilege to be able to capture this stunning event only 5 minutes from home.
