Erin Micic, Autism And Its Many Faces (PEOPLE 2020)
My brother Ryan is a sixteen year old boy who lives with Autism and ADHD. He is a boy who has a vivid imagination, lots of talents that lie in different places and he is the strongest kid I know. Bullying is a constant part of his life. He is bullied for his looks; his smile and haircut. I wanted to capture my brother and celebrate what he is ashamed of. My brother is perfect to me. He struggles to realise he is just as beautiful as we tell him he is. He has a chameleon soul. I have captured my brother here, showcasing his fluctuation of emotions and triggers that would be experienced by any autistic child. He is a canvas that can produce a thousand images. These images liberate his uniqueness, and tell the audience that his Autism and ADHD is no hinderance. It is what makes him my brother. It makes him human.
