Carl Nehore, Bena village (TRAVEL 2024)
On the Indonesian island of Flore, this cultural village can be found. 1. Standing at the entrance one can only be in awe - this drone shot indicates the villages precarious position on the side of a volcano and its captivating structural build. Interesting to note the traditional thatched homes adjoined to the tin-roofed, satellite-decked modern home. 2. The central portion of the village is used for cultural activities - ritual sacrifices on slate stone, altars for worship and it is also used as a burial ground. 3. Each house has a stack of buffalo horns displayed outside - every few years sacrificial offerings are made by each household; the horns of the buffalo are thereafter collected and displayed one the carcass has been broken down. 4. Traditional weaving - An elder uses the locally grown cotton to weave into a shawl.
