Peta Buckley, Birds of Christmas Island (Animal & Nature 2021)

I had heard how Christmas Island Australia was the “Galapagos of the Indian Ocean” so I was eager to explore the nature lovers paradise with camera in hand, right before Australia hit Covid lockdown. Each day exploring the island was an adventure, I was fortunate to witness nature at its best with wildlife in its natural habitat which is always a pleasure to see. I sat back admiring Boobies and Tropicbirds on multiple days, as well as never getting bored of seeing the well-known red crabs, which you cannot avoid on the island. The highlight was actually witnessing a turtle nesting one evening under the moonlit sky, however felt I wanted to give the privacy it deserved by leaving the camera a home on that occasion.
