Nilmini De Silva, Carving a Path (AERIAL 2022)
I have always felt a spiritual connection to water. I love the sound of waterfalls, the crash of waves at the ocean and the gentle trickle of a stream. As I look down on our beautiful planet from the safety of a Cesna—albeit with the doors open—I am naturally drawn to the pathways and patterns carved by water systems. Once I spot water, I am then on the lookout for shape, form, colour and texture. They help me compose my images, even when the scene below me is busy and my time is limited. Once this part of Western Australia was home to the Malgana, Nanda and Yingkarta people. Today, I remember them as I look down on this landscape in awe.
