Jonathan Abdipranoto, Composing by the sea (Landscape 2017)
I have an obsession with capturing long exposures by the sea in the hope of causing the skies to look more dynamic and to imbue the sea with a semblance of calm. That is what is on my mind when I wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning for a seascape shoot. I try and predict how good a sunrise is based on a few resources and then go and, to be honest, I am usually way off the mark more often then not! Despite this, I keep my chin up and make the best of the conditions by focusing on what I can control: my long exposures and my composition. By emphasizing on these facets we can still capture the subject and feeling that we set out to capture despite things not always going according to plan. We just need to smile and embrace the challenge!
