david cowles, Dark Sky area in an Ancient Land (TRAVEL 2023)

Arkaroola area is over 1600 million years old. The tops of these ranges have weathered down and blown across to settle on the well known Flinders Ranges. These epic vistas are difficult to describe let alone capture. The best way to get an understanding of this ancient area is to do the famous Ridge Top Tour. It is a slow 4WD journey of 21Km each way with afternoon tea at the end point known as Sillers lookout. From here you can look back to see Lake Frome on the horizon. Simply magical country. Many walking & 4WD trails to explore. Many ,many composition locations . This area is not far away from achieving World Heritage classification. Then there is the Stars & Universe. One of the best if not the best in Australia , Has been awarded World recognition for it's Dark Sky. The neatest town is 132km away so no light pollution. Everyone should have this unique location & area on their list of places to visit!
