Kate Friebe, Deconstruction of a Sand Dune - Big Red (LANDSCAPE 2020)

Affectionately known as 'Big Red', this sand dune just outside Birdsville is the first of 1140 parallel dunes of the Simpson Desert. During events such as the Big Red Bash, the dune is criss-crossed with vehicle tracks, but over time, wind continually reshapes and reconstructs the dune, erasing all traces of what went before. Reflected in this series are the stoss (upwind) and lee (downflow) ripples that form elements of the larger Big Red dune itself.
