STUART BELL, DESERT BASTIONS (B&W 2024)

‘Saltation’ describes the process by which sand grains are picked up and transported by the wind. Sand grains bounce along the ground, finer particles suspended in air, and when the wind stops or slows down, the sand is deposited and may build sand dunes. In this series we visually unwrap that relationship as the wind carrying sand fabricates structural strongholds elsewhere in the dune fields. The textures, patterns and light-play are indeed fascinating, overstated more so I feel in black & white. Pilbara Coast, Western Australia.
