Joy Kachina, Echoes of the Cider Gums (CREATIVE 2024)

The Miena Cider Gums, found in a small region of the Central Highlands of Tasmania, are on the Critically Threatened List. They grow at 1000m above sea level, prefer cold wet conditions, and are susceptible to drought and heat stress. There are only eight small stands of Cider Gum, occupying a few hundred hectares left in the world. This image is a double exposure in camera, capturing the textured bark of the gums and the stand of gums on the horizon. By documenting the resilience and fragility of these trees, my hope is it will serve as a call to action for the conservation of our Tasmanian Native Forests, urging us to protect them before they are all gone.
