Andrew Farr, End of an era (Landscape 2021)

Australia’s deserts are home to some of the most remote country on this planet. This remoteness has in some ways shielded them from the relentless advances of capitalism, but scars still remain. Within the last century the desert has witnessed unprecedented shifts in human transportation, from indigenous people walking country to Europeans arriving with horses and camels, and then the motorcar. Photography has also experienced exponential shifts, from wet plates, the dark room and large format cameras, to high resolution smart phone cameras and photoshop. This series was captured in the Gibson Desert, and on the Madigan Line in the Simpson Desert, using a large format camera with a 240mm copal 3 lens and Fuji Velvia.
