Keeleigh Shephard, Fight Fire With Fire (LANDSCAPE 2023)

These 4 images were taken on Fraser Island on the road to Lake McKenzie, where hazard reduction burns were taking place to prevent future intense bush fires. It is very rare to get a chance to be close to these to hazard reduction fires, let alone capture images of HR burns, so I tried to create a story through these images. The photos show the different stages of the fires from the beginning where the controlled fire is started by QLD National Parks staff members, through to the forest floor being taken over by flames, burning the fuel that will prevent future bush fires from spreading around the island.
