Amber King, Fin and Feather (Animal & Nature 2021)

Fin and Feather Eaglehawk Neck, Tasmania An amazing moment of sea life interacting and the ecosystems at play. We were on a Fluke Count on the coast of Tasmania and only expected to see seals and perhaps a whale, little did we know we were in for a show. Three whales were feeding and would come up from under the depths, their arrival was frantically heralded by the seals and birds diving for fish and a mouthful of krill before the whales surfaced and took a gulp. The water was a flurry of wings, flippers and fins. A sight truly chaotic and exhilarating. The Albatross would dive down and capture a mouthful before scooting across the water out of the way. We counted about 50 Albatross, Buller’s and Shy with gulls, Terns and Gannets also following the mammals. A once in a lifetime sighting.
