Boxia Gao, Fishing Dance (ANIMAL & NATURE 2023)

The light was quite soft on some winter afternoon in Melbourne. The foraging of little egrets is not the same as that of great egrets. Because of their smaller size, they always hop around on the water to hunt for prey. The little jumps of the egret were very distinctive, almost like a 'fishing dance'. In some situations, the clouds semi-covered the sun, making the sunlight fade in and out intermittently. I took the pictures just as the slanting sunlight hit the bird’s figure. I feel that their light and graceful posture under the light of the setting sun was like a dancer on a stage!
