Andy Bennett, Ghost Gum Grandpa (ANIMAL & NATURE 2020)

This majestic 300 year old ghost gum (corymbia aparrerinja) - the oldest in Australia - stands on the fringe of Trephina Gorge, near Alice Springs. It has survived drought, fire and visitors. Its bark is remarkably white, contrasting beautifully against the clear blue desert sky, and despite its age it hides its wrinkles well. One can only wonder at how many birds it has sheltered in its branches during its lifetime.
