Betty Collerson, Growing Old (People and Portrait 2018)

I photographed elders who continue to be actively engaged in the life of their community, even at very advanced age. Some still working well past seventy. These individuals defy the myth that ageing is something to dread and even fear, a negative stereotype that is constantly reinforced by the media and western popular culture. They challenge the prevailing view of the aged as worthless and dispensable citizens, by remaining productive, positive and engaged.
