Jenny Younger, High Voltage Crib (ANIMAL & NATURE 2022)
While on our way to Mossman, FNQ earlier this year we came across this family of Ospreys in a most unusual place. Precariously placed and built on top of an electricity pole, this very sturdy, but potentially dangerous nest was right on the edge of a very busy highway. This feathered family were not at all worried about us watching them in amazement from the other side of the road. Obviously it was a prime opportunity to get my Sony a9 out and shoot some images using my 100-400 GM lens + 1.4 x teleconverter. They certainly were fascinating subjects and are an example of how nature sometimes combines with man-made structures, albeit not a chick friendly environment, for breeding purposes. Ospreys are one of my favorite raptors, although I love all birds. The chick is on the far right hand side of the nest and looks like it's not far off from fledging.
