Lisa Thomas, Ibriktepe (TRAVEL 2022)

One of my favourite moments of a traditional Turkish wedding day that I recently attended (and there are many) was the wedding convoy. After a spot of dancing on the groom's grandmother's farm we all piled in to a row of cars, led by a pickup truck with the band playing in the back. We wound our way around the teapot in the centre of the village and through the streets honking and waving at all the people who came out to watch. Children (and the occasional adult) ran up to the bridal car, blocking it from moving until they received a tip (a few TL in an envelope) and allowed the convoy to pass.
