Nicky Tongs, IMPACT (LANDSCAPE 2024)

This photo is from a series of images that were taken from a multi-faceted perspective of an urban building that hosts a variety of Social Services and a Medical Centre. IMPACT – these Services have an impact on their community, the building has an impact on its environment. Each line depicts a community members journey of engagement with a respective Social Service. The varying shapes and colours in the image represent the diversity of the people in the community and the varying needs that they have. IMAGE 1 – IMPACT LIFELINE Social Services are perceived as providing rescue, a means of escape from difficult situations. The Community are dependant on the resources that Social Services and so reaches up to them for help. IMAGE 2 – IMPACT LINE OF DESCENT Depicts a 'time line' of people from the top down. Those who just beginning journey with Social Services, those who are at the end, and many who are fully immersed with no end in sight. IMAGE 3 – IMPACT DIVERSE LINE OF DESCENT Depicts the origin of a person in terms of family or nationality. There is depth and distance lineage: representative of past and present generations and space, representing the generations to come. IMAGE 4 – IMPACT BORDER-LINE Services offered by under-resourced Medical and Social Services are not always adequate and acceptable in quality. Community members experiences vary. Low quality service provision causes the Community to deteriorate; quality of life diminishes and people become exposed.
