Milie Maccallum, James (June theme: Portraiture)

The lens that I am exploring in this piece is an understanding of the female gaze and subjectivity. I photographed my partner in a candid moment, where the viewer can feel the tension of the female versus male gaze. The viewer is subjected to the female gaze, while the his direct eye contact introduces an element of the male gaze, creating a dynamic interplay between observer and observed. The inception of viewing perspectives. Through this photograph, I seek to highlight the layered interaction between these gazes and challenge the viewer to reflect on the nuances of gendered perspectives in visual culture.
