Clancy Malcolm, Layers of Life: Suburban Vietnam (TRAVEL 2024)
Away from the tourist hotspots of Ho Chi Minh City, market stalls are tightly packed between apartment buildings. We see shoppers carrying their purchases through an alley way and up into the apartments. Another side of the apartments reveals washing hanging outside windows and along the edges of walkways. Exploring the intricacies of these images uncovers details like a shuttle cock on a roof of a market stall, a pretty white dress amongst blue polo shirts hanging from wires, a Vietnamese hat between the umbrellas and spots of green paint underneath the creamy yellow. Through this set of images I aim to portray aspects of the unique character of suburban life in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
