Naoto Ijichi, Living Deco Sydney (B&W 2021)
Sydney is known for famous opera house, but also for beautiful examples of Art Deco architecture. Art Deco is the twentieth century’s most glamorous decorative and architectural style, highly prevalent in the inter-war period from the 1920s to 1930s. Buildings created in this style are fast approaching their 100th birthdays in the next 10 years. This series are featuring Art Deco style architecture and interior in Sydney, such as the Grace Building, the British Medical Association Building and Cahors. Through the black and white images of the Art Deco style buildings that are still being used now, I am trying to express the atmosphere of the jazz-age Art Deco period in Sydney.
