Stuart Davies, Mont Saint-Michel - built in 708 (November theme: History)

Legend has it, this fortress and Abbey began in the year 708 when the archangel Michael appeared in a dream. During the Hundred Years' War it resisted English sieges and remained under French Control, only succumbing to Nazi Germany during WW2. Typically you cannot take a photo of this historic icon from this angle unless it is low tide, otherwise you would need your swimming gear.
