KAREN SHARMAN, Mourning (People 2021)

I created these images today as I think about the women in Afghanistan. That's why it's titled 'Mourning' because I can feel the suffocating grief of so many women around the world as these sisters are about to have so many rights stripped away from them yet again. I read an article yesterday where a woman on the ground there explained that there wasn't enough air to breathe as so many people tried to flee the country from the airport. The plastic bag represents this moment for her and how the women are on the cusp of undoubtedly becoming invisible yet again under Taliban rule.
