Michael Tomkinson, Over the Falls (SINGLE SHOT 2022)

Immediately after capturing this shot, all 80 kilos of me was picked up by the wave. In a moment of weightlessness I floated over the falls with the lip and came crashing down into 2 foot of turbulent sandy water. In the violence of the moment all I could hope for was the water housing to not smash me in the face. After being pressed into the ocean floor for a couple of seconds, the wave let me up, I swam out of the impact zone to deeper water and reviewed the shot in the camera's view finder. When I saw this image I let out a little squeal of delight. The pummelling I had received was worth it. Main Beach, Qld Australia. Sony A74, FE 24-70mm 2.8 GM, 1/800, f/2.8, ISO 800, Aquatech Edge Water Housing.
