Don Dennett, Pollen (Animal & Nature 2021)

These are common garden flowers taken in early spring when pollen production is at a maximum. The aim of taking the images was to focus on the accumulation of pollen, rather than the whole flower, in order to see detail not normally visible to the casual observer. Each image is the result of focus stacking just the centre portion of the flower; a wide aperture was employed to render most of the petals out of focus, to enhance the pollen grains. A simple light background was used to avoid visual distractions from the central theme of the image.

Images have been resized for web display, which may cause some loss of image quality. Note: Original high-resolution images are used for judging.
