Melanie Hinds, Preserving the wild spirit (ANIMAL & NATURE 2024)

The Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary is dedicated to providing a safe haven for wild horses that have been removed from public lands due to overpopulation. Located on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming, the sanctuary offers these horses a place to live freely and naturally on thousands of acres of protected Indian Reservation land. In addition to caring for the horses, the sanctuary also serves as an educational resource, allowing visitors to learn about the history and cultural significance of wild horses, especially in relation to the Native American communities of the area. The sanctuary’s mission is to preserve the wild spirit of these horses while fostering a deeper understanding of their connection to the land and its people.
