Jaime Clarke, Science in my life (Junior 2017)
Each of these photos represents science in my life. The photo of chalk writing on the ground at my school at William Clarke College reminds me of a mathematical equation. While certain famous equations, such as Albert Einstein's E = mc2, hog most of the public glory, many less familiar formulas have their champions among scientists. Perhaps this one is one of them?. Some scientists are concerned that we may have reached a critical low in monarch numbers from which the population may not be able to bounce back. Right now, we don’t know, only time will tell how butterfly’s will respond to climate change. The photo of the butterfly make me glad that scientist are studying climate change and butterflies. There is a photo of my sister’s hands in the sand with running water over it. Did you ever notice the cool patterns around your hands when you hold them together in the wet sand at the beach? The pressure of your hand has effects far outside your handprints. What you can see is the volume of wet sand changes under the pressure of the running water pressure. The last photo was taken near the oval at William Clarke College.Science involves making predictions and describing patterns and relationships. A walk around the school grounds can identify the path that rainwater takes from the start to the exit from school property.. Science knowledge helps people to understand the results of their actions – as you can see the pipe is clear, meaning that students are good at keeping our oval ‘litter free’.
