Patrick Prior, Snowy Mountains Over Lake Wakatipu (LANDSCAPE 2024)
These four photos, taken in Queenstown and Glenorchy, are connected by their shared focus on Lake Wakatipu, capturing different perspectives of the same landscape. Inspired by my recent visit to Neville Porter’s gallery, the images explore the interplay between nature’s beauty and human presence. The vibrant colors of the changing trees contrast with the deep blues of the lake, creating a striking visual balance. The inclusion of a jetty and a swimming platform as central elements introduces a narrative of human interaction within this grand natural setting. By isolating these man-made structures against the backdrop of towering mountains, I sought to highlight the tension between the simplicity of human creations and the overwhelming power of the natural world. This contrast evokes a sense of insignificance, where the human-made objects feel almost fragile within the vastness of their environment.
