Luke Mackenzie, Socotra: Yemen's Hidden Gem (TRAVEL 2023)

When you hear about Yemen, it’s usually war and famine. I chose to travel to the island of Socotra this year to see another side of Yemen that’s not often spoken about. From the arrival into downtown Hadiboh where you’re surrounded by mountains, to cruising along coastline in awe of giant cliffs, then up into the highlands to see dragon blood trees which are found nowhere else on earth! And down into the towns where you see the sense of community with men gathering to chat and play domino’s in streets. It quickly became one of my favourite destinations.
