Nilmini De Silva, Suspended over Country (AERIAL 2022)
I have always been fascinated by the ancient aerial paintings of Aboriginal artists. They imagined themselves hovering over their country as they documented the natural and mystical forms they visualised. How they did this is quite mysterious because back then they had never been in an airplane. They used these drawings to pass on information like knowledge of water sources and locations of bush tucker. I have captured these views from the Western Australian ocean as I travelled through the landscape in a Cessna with the doors open. This is my dreaming.
