Theresa Lee, Sweet Contentment (People and Portrait 2019)

John Karlik recently celebrated his 89th birthday. Born in Prague, John was one of the fortunate children on the last ‘Kindertransport’ to leave Czechoslovakia in 1939. Today he still regards himself as extremely lucky. He enjoys good health, which enables him to continue delivering Meals on Wheels as a volunteer. For almost 20 years John has provided this community service cheerfully. He is well known in our neighbourhood as the food chemist in the 1950s who gave us the pleasure of enjoying the chocolate paddle pop! It was a delight to meet and photograph such a warm-hearted gentleman.
