Christopher Hubbard, The Golden City (SINGLE SHOT 2024)

Founded at the end of the 17th century, Ouro Preto (Black Gold) was the focal point of the gold rush and Brazil’s golden age in the 18th century. During the gold rush in mid-18th century, there were more people living here - around 100,000 - more than in New York or Rio de Janeiro at the time. During that time the gold from Ouro Preto was the main source of income for the Portuguese crown and it soon became the symbolic center of the Inconfidência Mineira in 1789, a Brazilian independence movement, which sparked Brazil's independence from Portugal. How fitting it was to capture this image of the beauty city during golden hour on a winter's afternoon.
