Alex Ham, The Price We Pay (Landscape 2019)
This series shows aerial images taken from a fixed wing aircraft of the tailing ponds of a WA bauxite mine. Minerals are processed using chemicals, and the tailing ponds are used to collect the residue from this process. These images, while beautiful in their colour and form, also serve to remind us of the impact we are having on the planet and the price we are paying for our consumerism. The almost apocalyptic feel to them, hints at where we may be heading.
Images have been resized for web display, which may cause some loss of image quality. Note: Original high-resolution images are used for judging.
