Peter Barrien, The Tui Bird (Wildlife and Animal 2017)
The Tui, or koko bird, is a new Zealand honeyeater of the order Passeriformes. Unlike the majority of new Zealand birds, the Tui has survived and thrived because of its close relationship with man (including being both tamed and eaten by the Maoris) , and its ornery and cantankerous personality. I'm sure this is a metaphor for something, and together with its wonderful form, earns it a place in my occasional photography of indigenous Australian and New Zealand birds.
