Jasmine McGregor, We are made of Stardust (June theme: Neon lights)

While on holiday in Hobart, Tasmania, I was unable to sleep. This isn't a rare occasion, I'm very much a night owl and enjoy staying up to ridiculous hours. As I usually would on nights like these, I got up and went onto the balcony of the hotel room we were staying in. Back home I live in the hills, so as long as the night sky is clear I've always been able to look up and see countless stars and constellations. Here however, the lights of Hobart dimmed any stars so that only the moon was visible. I was disappointed so looked down to watch Hobart and was immediately greeted by a neon sign on the building across from us. We are made of stardust. It was so surreal, it wasn't there to advertise something or spread information. It was just there to say something. The sign itself is in reference to our atoms which were born and spread across the universe from exploding stars. Despite the fact that I wasn't able to see any real stars, I found that sign gave me the same peaceful feeling that regular stars did. So, I went back inside, grabbed my camera, and started taking photos. I must have been out there for 30 minutes in the freezing cold, just about drop dead exhausted as I took a range of photos just of this one sign. Every time I look at that photo I still get same feeling I got on that night and I hope it succeeds in sharing that feeling with you as well.
