Genevieve Ackland, Women In Trains (People and Portrait 2019)
Blue collar jobs in Australia have traditionally been a male-dominated workforce, and the role of Train Driver is no exception. Over the last 15 years, a push for gender diversity in the industry has resulted in significant change, and this photographic portrait series showcases female train drivers in Melbourne, captured on 35mm film using a 1964 rangefinder camera. These raw and meaningful portraits convey strength, confidence, and empowerment, and put together a very different story that defies the long standing stereotype of a boys club in the railway industry.
